\nLa struttura si compone di un grande edificio, costruito probabilmente a partire dal XV secolo, dalla funzione residenziale, e da numerosi altri edifici di supporto.
\nSi riconoscono le stalle, una grande aia coperta, probabilmente la pi\u00f9 grande fra quelle esistenti in Valdicecina ed altri edifici pi\u00f9 piccoli, alcuni dei quali usati come abitazioni.
\nA poca distanza da questo complesso si trova anche una chiesa di origini medievale; la chiesa oggi conserva poco della struttura pi\u00f9 antica, in quanto \u00e8 stata restaurata nel 1922 dal conte Ugolino della Gherardesca, uno degli ultimi proprietari.

Una visita merita certamente la Pieve di San Giovanni Battista, aperta per\u00f2 solo in occasione delle funzioni. Interessante \u00e8 anche il castello, l\u2019edificio turrito e merlato che sorge di fronte alla Pieve, fortemente restaurato.

The castle, with its turrets and battlements in front of the church, is also interesting.

Nel borgo murato spiccano, per architettura e struttura, la villa e la chiesa. La villa, che \u00e8 stata naturale scenografia dello\u00a0sceneggiato televisivo \u201cRitratto di donna velata<\/strong>\u201d, presenta una elaborata facciata in cotto e giardino con statue, ricchi portali e una cancellata signorile che chiude anche il borgo. Appartenuta nel Settecento a Mario Guarnacci, la villa pass\u00f2 ai\u00a0Sermolli\u00a0e poi, agli inizi dell\u2019Ottocento, a\u00a0Luigi Campani\u00a0che la ristruttur\u00f2\u00a0\u201cin stile eclettico\u201d, come la defin\u00ec lo stesso ingegnere Campani.\u00a0
La costruzione, riadattamento del palazzo guarnacciano, risale al\u00a01822\u00a0quando l\u2019ing. Campani, che gi\u00e0 aveva progettato il Teatro Persio FIacco, decise di unirsi in matrimonio con Barbara, ultima discendente della casata\u00a0Riccobaldi Del Bava Arrighi. Nella facciata sono infatti riprodotti\u00a0gli stemmi delle due famiglie
Passata, nel\u00a01822, di propriet\u00e0 a Luigi Campani, la Fattoria nel 1940 ingloba un patrimonio di 460 ettari e 15 poderi. Appartenuta nel Settecento a Mario Guarnacci, la villa pass\u00f2 ai\u00a0Sermolli\u00a0e poi, agli inizi dell\u2019Ottocento, a\u00a0Luigi Campani\u00a0che la ristruttur\u00f2\u00a0\u201cin stile eclettico\u201d, come la defin\u00ec lo stesso ingegnere Campani.\u00a0
La costruzione, riadattamento del palazzo guarnacciano, risale al\u00a01822\u00a0quando l\u2019ing. Campani, che gi\u00e0 aveva progettato il Teatro Persio FIacco, decise di unirsi in matrimonio con Barbara, ultima discendente della casata\u00a0Riccobaldi Del Bava Arrighi. Nella facciata sono infatti riprodotti\u00a0gli stemmi delle due famiglie
Passata, nel\u00a01822, di propriet\u00e0 a Luigi Campani, la Fattoria nel 1940 ingloba un patrimonio di 460 ettari e 15 poderi. Il castello fu comprato, nel corso del \u2018600, dalla famiglia Maffei di Volterra, che inizi\u00f2 la costruzione della villa dove accolsero come vari personaggi famosi come il pittore Salvador Rosa.
Essa \u00e8 stata ribattezzata dagli abitanti della zona con il nome di Villa delle cento stanze, per la grandezza del fabbricato. Scornello \u00e8 situata sopra un poggetto da cui scaturisce l’acqua salata delle moie volterrane. Un documento del 23 luglio 1228 del Comune di Volterra tratta della vendita di tutte le propriet\u00e0 che gli Ospedalieri di Altopascio avevano in Scornello, che allora faceva parte dello Spedaletto di Agnano in Val d’Era.
L’imponente villa padronale era di propriet\u00e0 della famiglia Inghirami di Volterra, che ottenne il possesso di quei terreni alla fine del Duecento, acquistandoli dal comune di Volterra. La villa fu edificata probabilmente nei primi anni del XVII secolo, ma \u00e8 stata ampiamente ristrutturata nei secoli successivi.
Intorno ad essa si svilupparono gli ambienti lavorativi, e sul retro si trova ancora il giardino all’italiana.
La villa gentilizia con cappella e fattoria annessa dovrebbe risalire al XVII secolo quando ad essa si addoss\u00f2 un piccolo borgo rurale. La villa, compresa tra due edifici pi\u00f9 bassi, presenta due piani ed una piccola torre con, sul retro, il giardino all’italiana. Il progetto della villa fu affidato probabilmente all’architetto Gherardo Salvini, che aveva lavorato anche al palazzo della famiglia Inghirami a Volterra, costui realizz\u00f2 un massiccio edificio progettato per riprendere lo stile delle contemporanee ville fiorentine.
Intorno alla villa fu impiantato un grande parco che separava la villa padronale dalla fattoria vera e propria, dove si trovavano gli edifici destinati alle attivit\u00e0 produttive. Il progetto della villa fu affidato probabilmente all’architetto Gherardo Salvini, che aveva lavorato anche al palazzo della famiglia Inghirami a Volterra, costui realizz\u00f2 un massiccio edificio progettato per riprendere lo stile delle contemporanee ville fiorentine.
Intorno alla villa fu impiantato un grande parco che separava la villa padronale dalla fattoria vera e propria, dove si trovavano gli edifici destinati alle attivit\u00e0 produttive. Al tempo del sinodo volterrano del\u00a01356, la pieve di Pignano aveva sotto di s\u00e9 sette chiese succursali: San Giovanni d’Ariano, San Lorenzo di Cellole,\u00a0Santi Ippolito e Cassiano\u00a0a Sensano, Santi Jacopo e Cristofano a Spicchiaiola, San Vittore a Castro Populi e la chiesa di Lippiano.
Due sono i nuclei storici che costituiscono il borgo: la fattoria di Ponente, composta dalla villa residenziale e da alcuni casolari agricoli, alla quale si accede da un piccolo arco della cinta muraria\u00a0merlata; e la fattoria di Levante, posta sul lato orientale delle mura e di minore interesse architettonico. La localit\u00e0 \u00e8 servita da un proprio cimitero oggi diroccato anche se ben visibile.
