Itinerario attualmente non percorribile, in manutenzione<\/strong><\/p>\n

L\u2019itinerario compie un anello intorno alle pendici dell\u2019incantato borgo medievale di Montecatini Val di Cecina. Si parte dalla piazza del paese e scende in direzione sud  lungo la vecchia via indicata sul catasto Leopoldino come \u201cVia delle Moie\u201d, che conduceva alle Saline di Volterra. Caratterizzano il percorso panorami mozzafiato verso Volterra e l\u2019alta Val di Cecina, boschi, aree aperte con rocce affioranti, antichi coltivi terrazzati in abbandono, muri a secco realizzati con sassi di selagite, oggi recuperati e ricoperti di nuovo di olivi. La selagite, dispersa un po\u2019 ovunque, cavata su pi\u00f9 fronti proprio lungo questo itinerario, \u00e8 unica di questi luoghi e utilizzata gi\u00e0 dal periodo etrusco-romano. Nel tratto di ritorno verso il borgo si possono anche osservare resti di antichi castagneti da frutto e, nella parte finale, la Fonte della Madonna, ampia costruzione recentemente restaurata e parzialmente ricostruita; una pietra riporta la data 1681.  L\u2019ultimo tratto ripercorre la vecchia via medievale ancora lastricata che conduceva a Volterra, forse gi\u00e0 presente in epoca romana.<\/p>\n

The itinerary describes a ring around the slopes of the enchanted Medieval town of Montecatini Val di Cecina. You start out from the town square and descend southwards along the old street marked in 18th<\/sup> century documents as Via delle Moie, which led to the salt pans in Volterra. The route is marked by breathtaking views of Volterra and the upper Val di Cecina, woodlands, open areas with rocky outcroppings, long abandoned ancient terraced farmlands with selagite dry-stone walls which have recently been restored and once again are home to olive trees. Selagite rock, scattered all over the place and extracted in several spots along this very itinerary, is found only here and has been used since Etruscan and Roman times. On the way back towards the town, you will walk through the remains of ancient chestnut orchards, and in the final leg you will encounter the Fonte della Madonna, a vast building which has recently been restored and partially rebuilt; on one rock we find the date 1681. The last leg retraces the old Medieval road, still paved, which led to Volterra and may have been in use as early as Roman
