Breve, ma suggestivo anello che congiunge l\u2019area di sosta attrezzata in localit\u00e0 \u201ccroce del masso\u201d con la cima del \u201cpoggio della Marruca\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Si cammina sempre sulle rocce verdi, le ofioliti: il sentiero attraversa brevi tratti di pineta che, salendo, lasciano spazio alla macchia mediterranea . Il rilievo si caratterizza per la presenza di una flora peculiare, adattata alle difficili condizioni di sopravvivenza dei terreni serpentinosi, ricchi di metalli pesanti fitotossici e poveri di sostanze nutritive. Tra le specie presenti spicca la rara Stipa etrusca che, insieme ad altre, pi\u00f9 colorate, forma, in primavera, un vero e proprio giardino botanico.<\/p>\n

Dalla cima del colle (489 m.) un superbo panorama ci consente di osservare la celebre \u201cValle del Diavolo\u201d, area storica del primo sviluppo industriale geotermico e chimico e antico teatro di suggestioni dantesche, per i molti fenomeni idrotermali osservabili sin dall\u2019antichit\u00e0, come i famosi lagoni boraciferi.<\/p>\n

A short but evocative ring that connects the equipped rest area in Croce del Masso to the tip of the Poggio della Marruca, walking over green stone, or ophiolite. The path winds through short portions of pine woods, which, as the path ascends, make way for a Mediterranean shrubland that quickly turns to garrigue on the flat grasslands on the summit. The relief is marked by the presence of a unique flora, suited for the difficult conditions for survival in ophiolite terrain, which is rich in phytotoxic heavy metals and poor in nutrients. Among these, the rare Etruscan Stipa, together with other more colorful species, forms a veritable botanical garden in Spring. From the summit of the hill (489 mt.), a magnificent view makes it possible to observe the famous Valle del Diavolo, a historic area dating back to the first geothermic and chemical industrial development in the 19th<\/sup> century and ancient theater of Dantesque atmospheres because of the many hydrothermal phenomena observed since ancient times in the area, such as the famous hot springs (lagoni). The view then opens to the east, towards Rocca Sillana and the Siena area, north, towards Volterra and the Apennine mountains, and west, towards the vast Monterufoli
