The church is one of the best examples of franciscan architecture in the Chianti area. According to legend, the Franciscan convent of Borghetto would have been built after the visit of Saint Francis of Assisi in Val di Pesa in 1220, although the first documented news on the building dates back to 1278 and is reported in a will in which the Countess Beatrice, daughter of Count Rodolfo degli Alberti of Capraia, donated 25 lire to the friars of the Borghetto. At the end of the eighteenth century the convent was suppressed and the church reduced to a parish. The fa\u00e7ade, rebuilt in the twentieth century, is in neo-Gothic style and has a portal above which a lunette is decorated with a fresco depicting the Madonna and Child between two angels, built in the fourteenth century. On the right side of the portal, is walled up a fourteenth-century sepulchral slab of a member of the Gherardini family. The interior has a single nave and presents traces of frescoes of the Sienese school of the fourteenth century: on the right wall are depictions of Saints Monks, Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Madonna in Throne with Child, all attributed to the Master of the Annunciation Legnaioli; on the left wall an announcing Angel. Church dedicated to Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary and protector of the Palafranieri, those who in the Middle Ages were in charge of the custody and care of the horses. The village of Tavarnelle, an ancient staging and exchange station for pack animals and horses for travelers who trod the road between Florence and Siena, grew considerably at the beginning of the nineteenth century, populating itself with shops, arts and workshops of various kinds, also thanks to the importance assumed by the Strada Regia Romana (the current Via Roma), which crossed it. The Church of Sant’Anna was frequented mostly by the inhabitants of the center, and they became more and more numerous. Church dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, protector of judges and notaries, venerated throughout the Middle Ages for her wisdom. The perimeter structure of the Church is one of the few traces of medieval buildings in the town. The Church is located at the entrance of the village of Tabernulae for travelers coming from Florence, and it was among the properties of the Pieve di San Pietro in Bossolo until 1752. In 1848 the Church became exclusive property of the Vallecchi family. It is a small Romanesque building with a rectangular layout. Over the years it has been reduced in size and partly used as a private residence. The Romanesque parish church of San Pietro in Bossolo stands on an early Christian cemetery site dating back to the 5th century, found during some excavations carried out in 1967. It derives its name from “in buxula”, a term that indicated the place where the Roman military camps guarded the military strongbox. The current structure dates back to the second half of the eleventh century and inside has retained its original appearance with three apses aisles, with arches supported by twelve stone pillars. The fa\u00e7ade is preceded by a portico added in 1510, when the parsonage was also restored, where the community of priests resided, who moved to the churches of the surrounding countryside to celebrate mass. On the south side of the building there is a cloister with octagonal pillars.
