L’abbazia \u00e8 un monastero benedettino della Congregazione vallombrosana, istituita nell’XI secolo per opera di San Giovanni Gualberto, che qui mor\u00ec nel 1073. Il complesso monastico appare oggi racchiuso all’interno di una cortina muraria quattrocentesca a pianta quadrangolare con torri d’angolo, con evidenti integrazioni neogotiche realizzate alla fine del XIX secolo quando, soppressa la comunit\u00e0 monastica, venne trasformato in una villa castello. Dalla porta d\u2019ingresso nel giardino, databile al 1474 circa, si accede all’abbazia, all’interno della quale troviamo il chiostro e gli ambienti di servizio del monastero, quali: il refettorio, la cucina, le stanze capitolari, la biblioteca. La sala del refettorio venne realizzata durante i lavori degli anni Settanta del XV secolo, al suo interno \u00e8 possibile ammirare la decorazione ad affresco con l’Ultima cena, opera di Domenico Ghirlandaio databile al 1476. The abbey is a Benedictine monastery of the Vallombrosian Congregation, established in the eleventh century by Giovanni Gualberto, who died here in 1073. The monastic complex still appears today inside a quadrangular wall curtain of the fifteenth century with corner towers, but it shows evident neo-Gothic additions built at the end of the nineteenth century when, after the monastic community was suppressed, it was transformed into a villa. The entrance door, datable to the fifteenth century, leads to the Abbey where you can visit the refectory, the kitchen, the chapter rooms, the library. The refectory hall was built during the work of the seventies of the fifteenth century, inside it is possible to admire the fresco decoration with the Last Supper, by Domenico Ghirlandaio, dating back to 1476. Un oratorio all’esterno delle mura del monastero venne costruito nel 1080 per volont\u00e0 dell’abate Giovanni Leto, per dare la possibilit\u00e0 agli abitanti del borgo di Passignano di usufruire dei servizi religiosi. La chiesa fu ricostruita nelle forme attuali durante l’abbaziato di Nicola Gianfigliazzi (1335-1340). Esternamente presenta una semplice facciata ed un portale d’ingresso con architrave in pietra sormontato da una lunetta. L’interno ad aula unica coperto a capriate presenta una piccola abside semicircolare. In origine erano presenti piccole finestre a feritoia, disposte sulla parete laterale sinistra, furono sostituite nel 1689 da tre finestre. An oratory outside the walls of the monastery was built in 1080 by Abbot Giovanni Leto, to give the possibility to the inhabitants of the village of Passignano to take advantage of religious services. The church was rebuilt in its current form during the Abbey of Nicola Gianfigliazzi (1335-1340). Externally it has a simple facade and an entrance portal with a stone lintel surmounted by a lunette. The interior with a single hall covered with trusses has a small semicircular apse. Originally there were small slit windows, arranged on the left side wall, that were replaced in 1689 by three windows. La piccola cappella detta del Morandello prende il nome dall’antica denominazione del limitrofo podere gi\u00e0 di propriet\u00e0 della Badia a Passignano. Fu costruita nel 1598 per ordine dell’Abate di Passignano sul luogo dove precedentemente vi era un tabernacolo. La cappella, piccolo elegante edificio a pianta rettangolare, \u00e8 coperta con tetto a capanna e dotata di una semplice facciata affiancata da eleganti volute. Al centro sorge il portale, sovrastato da una finestra oculare e lateralmente da due finestrelle quadrangolari. Tutte le aperture sono incorniciate da pietra serena. L’esistenza della Chiesa, diventata presto sede in un cenobio canonicale di agostiniani, \u00e8 documentata fino dall’XI secolo. Il complesso originario, costituito dalla chiesa ad aula unica con copertura a capanna e dall\u2019attigua canonica con i resti della torre eretta a fortificazione dell’edificio, ha subito negli anni numerosi rimaneggiamenti. Tracce dell’impianto originario sono presenti sulla parete inglobata dal fabbricato della casa canonica. Un tabernacolo con un affresco raffigurante Sant’Anna con la Vergine e il Bambino, probabilmente eseguito da uno degli artisti che operavano in quel periodo nella vicina Abbazia di San Michele arcangelo a Badia a Passignano, venne realizzato nella prima met\u00e0 del XV secolo nei pressi del ponte di Romagliano a Sambuca. Nel 1725 la famiglia Torelli fece erigere intorno all’antica edicola un piccolo edificio che proteggesse l’antica immagine. La chiesa a pianta esagonale presenta ai lati delle finestrelle con grata per consentire ai pellegrini la venerazione dell’immagine sacra custodita all’interno. A tabernacle with a fresco depicting Saint Anne with the Virgin and Child, probably created by one of the artists who worked in the nearby Passignano Abbey, was built in the first half of the 15th century near the Romagliano bridge in Sambuca. In 1725 the Torelli family of Sambuca built a small building around the ancient shrine that protected the ancient image. The building has a hexagonal plan and a central door. At the sides there are small barred windows to allow pilgrims to \u00a0venerate the sacred image kept inside. The tabernacle was restored by Luigi Pagni Torelli in 1843. Ricordata gi\u00e0 nel 989 in un documento del monastero di Badia a Passignano, la Pieve di San Donato in Poggio sorgeva presumibilmente nei pressi dell\u2019attuale torre campanaria e doveva essere di dimensioni molto ridotte rispetto all’attuale. Grazie alla sua posizione strategica di confine tra le diocesi di Firenze, Siena e Fiesole, la Pieve godette sempre di notevole importanza e favor\u00ec il formarsi nei suoi pressi del castello di San Donato in Poggio. Nel 1265, dopo la battaglia di Montaperti, proprio nella Pieve di San Donato in Poggio venne siglato il trattato di pace tra le Repubbliche rivali di Firenze e Siena. L’edificio attuale costituisce uno dei pi\u00f9 tipici esempi di architettura romanica del contado fiorentino, risalente alla seconda met\u00e0 del XII secolo, contraddistinto dalla bellezza e regolarit\u00e0 del paramento murario, realizzato a filaretto in pietra alberese. All’interno presenta tre navate terminanti in absidi semicircolari: la navata centrale, molto pi\u00f9 alta delle laterali, conferisce un accentuato slancio verticale a tutto l\u2019edificio ed \u00e8 separata dalle altre attraverso pilastri a sezione rettangolare. The village of San Donato in Poggio has preserved the typical medieval structure with two-fourteenth-century walls that surround it and a main road that crosses it connecting the two access gate located in the direction of Siena and Florence. The structure of the gate, to which the documentation of the early Middle Ages referred to the name of Porta di Sopra, was heavily damaged during the Second World War and then rebuilt: only three perimeter remain of the original system but no plan or cover . Also the portal has been redone with a brick ring nut cutting places, while all the masonry above has been restored recently. Inside the door you can see some significant elements: the back side of the portal still retains the original ring in stone blocks with a slightly lowered section, also a few meters inside, on the left side, you can see protruding from a building, about three meters in height, the remains of the arch of the original door. The portal has also been redone with a brick ring nut cutting places, while all the masonry has been restored recently. Chiesa trecentesca in origine dedicata a Tommaso d’Aquino, Santo che secondo la tradizione locale avrebbe sostato nel paese. Nella seconda met\u00e0 del XIV secolo la chiesa venne dedicata a Santa Maria della Neve e divenne sede della omonima Compagnia. L’edificio, realizzato in muratura di pietra locale, mattoni e ciottoli, ha una semplice navata con scarsella quadrata. All’interno sono presenti i resti di due affreschi: uno raffigurante la Vergine risalente al XIV secolo e uno (affresco staccato) datato 1413 raffigurante la Madonna con il Bambino in trono e i Santi Simeone e Taddeo. A 14h-century church originally dedicated to St. Thomas Aquinas, Saint who according to local tradition had stayed in the town. In the second half of the 14th century the Church was dedicated to Santa Maria della Neve and became the headquarters of the Company of Santa Maria della Neve. The building, made of local stone masonry and pebbles, has a simple aisle with square scarsella. Inside there are the remains of two frescoes: one of a 14th century depicting the Virgin and one of 1413 depicting the enthroned Madonna with Child and Saints Simon and Thaddeus. Si tratta del dipinto conservato nell’attuale Santuario di Santa Maria delle Grazie di Pietracupa, ritenuto per lungo tempo un\u2019opera di Paolo Schiavo, recentemente attribuito a Masaccio. Nel 1596, a seguito delle numerose guarigioni di devoti che si erano raccomandati all\u2019immagine del tabernacolo, due fratelli della nobile famiglia Naldi di San Donato in Poggio, Donato e Santi del fu Nicola, donarono un terreno pianeggiante per la costruzione di una chiesa in onore di Santa Maria delle Grazie. \u00a0La chiesa \u00e8 un edificio ad aula unica al termine della quale nel presbiterio si aprono due cappelle laterali ed il coro, posto oltre la parete terminale dietro l’altare maggiore. Sul lato sinistro \u00e8 collocato il campanile a vela, dal profilo slanciato e aperto da tre fornici su due livelli. In the locality called Pietracupa there was a tabernacle dedicated to the Madonna, with a 15th-century fresco depicting the Virgin with the Child. In 1596, following the numerous healings of devotees who had recommended themselves to the image of the tabernacle, two brothers of the noble Naldi family of San Donato in Poggio, Donato and Saints of the late Nicola, donated a flat plot of land for the construction of a church in honor of Santa Maria delle Grazie. The church is a single-aisle building at the end of which in the presbytery there are two side chapels and the choir, located beyond the end wall behind the main altar. On the left side is the bell gable, with a slender profile and open by three arches on two levels. La chiesa nacque come piccolo convento carmelitano fondato nel 1475 dal fiorentino Niccol\u00f2 Sernigi, che ritrov\u00f2 la fede sul luogo in cui si trovava un’immagine della Madonna lasciata da alcuni pellegrini e ritenuta miracolosa. L’edificio presenta una semplice planimetria ad aula unica con coro rettangolare concluso con una scarsella, secondo lo stile tipico della costruzioni religiose minori del periodo tardogotico. All’interno sono custodite alcune opere d’arte del XV secolo, tra cui un busto di terracotta del Sernigi circondato da un festone robbiano e un’Annunciazione a forma di lunetta di Andrea della Robbia. The church was born as a small Carmelite convent founded in 1475 by the Florentine Niccol\u00f2 Sernigi, who found faith in the place where there was an image of the Madonna left by some pilgrims and considered miraculous. The building has a simple single-room plan with rectangular choir finished with a scarsella, according to the typical style of the minor religious buildings of the late Gothic period. Inside there are some works of art of the fifteenth century, including a terracotta bust of the Sernigi surrounded by a robbiano festoon and a lunette-shaped Annunciation by Andrea della Robbia. La Pieve romanica di San Pietro in Bossolo sorge su un’area cimiteriale di epoca paleocristiana risalente al V secolo, rinvenuta durante alcuni scavi effettuati nel 1967. Deriva il suo nome da \u201cin buxula\u201d, termine che indicava il luogo in cui gli accampamenti militari romani custodivano la cassa militare. La struttura attuale risale alla seconda met\u00e0 dell’XI secolo e all’interno ha conservato il suo aspetto originario a tre navate absidate, con archi sorretti da dodici pilastri in pietra. La facciata \u00e8 anticipata da un portico aggiunto nel 1510, quando fu ristrutturata anche la canonica, dove risiedeva la comunit\u00e0 dei sacerdoti, i quali si spostavano nelle chiese della campagna circostante per celebrare la messa. Sul fianco sud dell’edificio \u00e8 posto il chiostro a pilastri ottagonali. The Romanesque parish church of San Pietro in Bossolo stands on an early Christian cemetery site dating back to the 5th century, found during some excavations carried out in 1967. It derives its name from “in buxula”, a term that indicated the place where the Roman military camps guarded the military strongbox. The current structure dates back to the second half of the eleventh century and inside has retained its original appearance with three apses aisles, with arches supported by twelve stone pillars. The fa\u00e7ade is preceded by a portico added in 1510, when the parsonage was also restored, where the community of priests resided, who moved to the churches of the surrounding countryside to celebrate mass. On the south side of the building there is a cloister with octagonal pillars. La chiesa \u00e8 uno dei migliori esempi di architettura francescana del territorio chiantigiano. Secondo una leggenda, il convento del Borghetto sarebbe stato edificato dopo la visita di San Francesco d’Assisi in Val di Pesa nel 1220, anche se la prima notizia documentata dell’edificio risale al 1278 ed \u00e8 riportata in un testamento in cui la contessa Beatrice, figlia del conte Rodolfo degli Alberti di Capraia, donava 25 lire ai frati del Borghetto. \u00a0Alla fine del XVIII secolo il convento venne soppresso e la chiesa ridotta a parrocchia. \u00a0La parte superiore della facciata, rifatta nel XX secolo, \u00e8 in stile neogotico e presenta un portale sopra al quale si trova una lunetta decorata con un affresco, quasi illeggibile, raffigurante la Madonna col Bambino tra due angeli, realizzato anch\u2019esso nel XX secolo. Sulla destra del portale \u00e8 murata una lastra sepolcrale trecentesca di un membro della famiglia Gherardini.\u00a0 L’interno presenta un’ampia navata ad aula unica coperta da capriate e conclusa da una scarsella quadrangolare, che si adattava perfettamente alle esigenze di culto dell’ordine francescano: una sala vasta e luminosa, dove accogliere folle di fedeli da evangelizzare con la parola e le immagini affrescate sulle pareti. All\u2019interno, gli affreschi di scuola fiorentina, riconducibili agli anni Settanta del XIV secolo, raffigurano Santi Francescani e Santa Caterina d’Alessandria sulla parete destra, una Madonna col Bambino in trono; un Angelo annunciante sulla parete sinistra. The church is one of the best examples of franciscan architecture in the Chianti area. According to legend, the Franciscan convent of Borghetto would have been built after the visit of Saint Francis of Assisi in Val di Pesa in 1220, although the first documented news on the building dates back to 1278 and is reported in a will in which the Countess Beatrice, daughter of Count Rodolfo degli Alberti of Capraia, donated 25 lire to the friars of the Borghetto. At the end of the eighteenth century the convent was suppressed and the church reduced to a parish. The fa\u00e7ade, rebuilt in the twentieth century, is in neo-Gothic style and has a portal above which a lunette is decorated with a fresco depicting the Madonna and Child between two angels, built in the fourteenth century. On the right side of the portal, is walled up a fourteenth-century sepulchral slab of a member of the Gherardini family. The interior has a single nave and presents traces of frescoes of the Sienese school of the fourteenth century: on the right wall are depictions of Saints Monks, Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Madonna in Throne with Child, all attributed to the Master of the Annunciation Legnaioli; on the left wall an announcing Angel.
