According to legend, the Franciscan convent of Borghetto would have been built after the visit of Saint Francis of Assisi in Val di Pesa in 1220, although the first documented news on the building dates back to 1278 and is reported in a will in which the Countess Beatrice, daughter of Count Rodolfo degli Alberti of Capraia, donated 25 lire to the friars of the Borghetto. In 1725 the Torelli family of Sambuca built a small building around the ancient shrine that protected the ancient image. The building has a hexagonal plan and a central door. At the sides there are small barred windows to allow pilgrims to \u00a0venerate the sacred image kept inside. The tabernacle was restored by Luigi Pagni Torelli in 1843.
