Badia a Passignano, castello murato;
l’Abbazia di San Michele, dove è morto e fu sepolto San Giovanni Gualberto;
il Monastero, dove si trovava il collegio di tutta la Congregazione (e non a Vallombrosa);
Poggio al Vento, castello-borgo fortificato; Pugliano, dove si trova una lapide in ricordo della nascita del pittore Domenico Cresti, detto Il Passignano, che dal 1598 al 1602 intervenne nella Badia di Passignano;

[138,194,141

The natural area of Badia a Passignano is known for the beauty of its monastery and for a series of sacred buildings of considerable historical-architectural importance; It is also interesting from the point of view of the landscape, due to the presence of the main components of the Chianti environment that surround the beautiful and important Badia, which dominates the entire area.
Recent studies have highlighted both the importance of the Etruscan ridge paths (which affect the area showing the design of a brilliant historical road that has contributed for centuries to “design” the territory), and a series of prehistoric testimonies of which until today nothing was known. A more careful analysis does not escape traces of paved roads that led from Badia to the ancient village of Poggio al Vento. Even the presence of a medieval bridge, the numerous dry-stone walls and some unusual piles of stones testify to these paths, which are still partly recoverable.
Within the natural area are included various rural complexes that belonged to the ancient Vallombrosian organization, and for this reason almost all of medieval origin.
Among these we remember:
Badia a Passignano, walled castle;
the Abbey of San Michele, where San Giovanni Gualberto died and was buried;
the Monastery, where the college of the whole Congregation was located (and not in Vallombrosa);
Poggio al Vento, a fortified castle-village; Pugliano, where there is a plaque in memory of the birth of the painter Domenico Cresti, called Il Passignano, who intervened from 1598 to 1602 in the Badia di Passignano;
Castelrotto, a rural Lorraine building located in a site with archaeological finds from the Roman era, where it was assumed that the watchtower was located on the main medieval road known as the Guardingo di Passignano.
In the area there are also various geological formations, united by the fact that they were originated from sediments deposited in an area or “paleogeographic domain” called the Ligurian Outer Domain, whose rocks were deposited in the ancient Ligurian-Piemontese Ocean, closed to because of the tectonic movements that then led to the alpine orogeny. The rocks originating from deep sea deposits are followed by rocks formed from deposits in the lower sea and later in the continental environment. In particular, in the protected area emerge sandstones and silicoclastic-carbonatic siltsites (Upper Cretaceous), gray-brown argillites and calcilutites (Upper Cretaceous – Paleocene) and the Formation of Monte Morello, rocks originating from submarine landslide deposits with outcropping of layers also very thick marly limestone (light and gray color) and marl (upper Paleocene – Middle Eocene).

[11.247505499999988,43.5773194
