In the locality of Romagliano, at the foot of the Sambuca castle, a stone bridge was built before the 12th century to allow the crossing of the Pesa river on the road for Siena and Rome. The bridge is mentioned in 1179: buildings with architectural features dating back to the 12th and the 13th century can be noted near it. The bridge was probably damaged in the early 15th century and rebuilt in 1415 to make it suitable for the transit of wheeled vehicles. The bridge was consolidated by the French Government in 1813 and enlarged in 1843.
