Il borgo di San Donato in Poggio ha conservato la tipica struttura medioevale con mura due-trecentesche che lo circondano e un asse viario principale che lo attraversa collegando le due porte di accesso situate in direzione di Siena e Firenze. La struttura della Porta Senese, a cui la documentazione di et\u00e0 bassomedievale si riferiva con la denominazione di Porta di Sopra, \u00e8 stata pesantemente danneggiata durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e poi ricostruita: dell’impianto originale restano solo i tre perimetrali ma nessun piano o copertura. Anche il portale \u00e8 stato rifatto con una ghiera in mattoni posti di taglio, mentre tutta la muratura al di sopra \u00e8 stata restaurata recentemente. All’interno della porta si notano alcuni elementi significativi: il lato posteriore del portale conserva ancora la ghiera originale in conci di pietra a sesto leggermente ribassato, inoltre qualche metro all’interno, sul lato sinistro, si notano sporgenti da un edificio, a circa tre metri di altezza, i resti dell’arco della porta originale. Anche il portale \u00e8 stato rifatto con una ghiera in mattoni posti di taglio, mentre tutta la muratura al di sopra \u00e8 stata restaurata recentemente. The village of San Donato in Poggio has preserved the typical medieval structure with two-fourteenth-century walls that surround it and a main road that crosses it connecting the two access gate located in the direction of Siena and Florence. The structure of the gate, to which the documentation of the early Middle Ages referred to the name of Porta di Sopra, was heavily damaged during the Second World War and then rebuilt: only three perimeter remain of the original system but no plan or cover . Also the portal has been redone with a brick ring nut cutting places, while all the masonry above has been restored recently. Inside the door you can see some significant elements: the back side of the portal still retains the original ring in stone blocks with a slightly lowered section, also a few meters inside, on the left side, you can see protruding from a building, about three meters in height, the remains of the arch of the original door. The portal has also been redone with a brick ring nut cutting places, while all the masonry has been restored recently. The oldest nucleus of San Donato in Poggio preserves intact the medieval urban structure, with the characteristic narrow streets that fold between the two-fourteenth-century houses and lead into the evocative Piazza Malaspina. Edificio tardo rinascimentale di cui si conosce l’esistenza sin dal 989, edificato alla fine del XVI secolo come segno di prestigio e riuscita sociale della famiglia Ticci, sandonatini da generazioni e immigrati a Firenze alla ricerca di un’ascesa sociale. Dal 1740, per settant’anni, fu residenza estiva di propriet\u00e0 dei Malaspina di Mulazzo. In seguito il Palazzo \u00e8 stato diviso e in parte acquisito dal Comune di Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. Il progetto di restauro promosso dall’Amministrazione e conclusosi nel 2011 ha riportato agli antichi splendori l’edificio, divenuto sede di esposizioni temporanee, convegni, mostre e altre manifestazioni culturali.
\nDi fronte al Palazzo si estende Piazza Malaspina, fulcro dell’antico borgo, su cui si affacciano anche il Palazzo Pretorio e la Chiesa di Santa Maria della Neve. Palazzo Malaspina, a late Renaissance building whose existence has been known since 989, was built at the end of the 16th century as a sign of prestige and social success of the Ticci family, From San Donato in Poggio for generations, who moved to Florence in search of a social ascent. From 1740, for seventy years, it was a summer residence owned by the Malaspina di Mulazzo. Later the Palace was divided and partly acquired by the Municipality of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. The restoration project promoted by the Administration and concluded in 2011 has brought the building back to its former glory, now the site of temporary exhibitions, conferences, exhibitions and other cultural events.
