Ricordata gi\u00e0 nel 989 in un documento del monastero di Badia a Passignano, la Pieve di San Donato in Poggio sorgeva presumibilmente nei pressi dell\u2019attuale torre campanaria e doveva essere di dimensioni molto ridotte rispetto all’attuale. Grazie alla sua posizione strategica di confine tra le diocesi di Firenze, Siena e Fiesole, la Pieve godette sempre di notevole importanza e favor\u00ec il formarsi nei suoi pressi del castello di San Donato in Poggio. Nel 1265, dopo la battaglia di Montaperti, proprio nella Pieve di San Donato in Poggio venne siglato il trattato di pace tra le Repubbliche rivali di Firenze e Siena. L’edificio attuale costituisce uno dei pi\u00f9 tipici esempi di architettura romanica del contado fiorentino, risalente alla seconda met\u00e0 del XII secolo, contraddistinto dalla bellezza e regolarit\u00e0 del paramento murario, realizzato a filaretto in pietra alberese. All’interno presenta tre navate terminanti in absidi semicircolari: la navata centrale, molto pi\u00f9 alta delle laterali, conferisce un accentuato slancio verticale a tutto l\u2019edificio ed \u00e8 separata dalle altre attraverso pilastri a sezione rettangolare. The village of San Donato in Poggio has preserved the typical medieval structure with two-fourteenth-century walls that surround it and a main road that crosses it connecting the two access gate located in the direction of Siena and Florence. The structure of the gate, to which the documentation of the early Middle Ages referred to the name of Porta di Sopra, was heavily damaged during the Second World War and then rebuilt: only three perimeter remain of the original system but no plan or cover . Also the portal has been redone with a brick ring nut cutting places, while all the masonry above has been restored recently. Inside the door you can see some significant elements: the back side of the portal still retains the original ring in stone blocks with a slightly lowered section, also a few meters inside, on the left side, you can see protruding from a building, about three meters in height, the remains of the arch of the original door. The portal has also been redone with a brick ring nut cutting places, while all the masonry has been restored recently. Chiesa trecentesca in origine dedicata a Tommaso d’Aquino, Santo che secondo la tradizione locale avrebbe sostato nel paese. Nella seconda met\u00e0 del XIV secolo la chiesa venne dedicata a Santa Maria della Neve e divenne sede della omonima Compagnia. L’edificio, realizzato in muratura di pietra locale, mattoni e ciottoli, ha una semplice navata con scarsella quadrata. All’interno sono presenti i resti di due affreschi: uno raffigurante la Vergine risalente al XIV secolo e uno (affresco staccato) datato 1413 raffigurante la Madonna con il Bambino in trono e i Santi Simeone e Taddeo. A 14h-century church originally dedicated to St. Thomas Aquinas, Saint who according to local tradition had stayed in the town. In the second half of the 14th century the Church was dedicated to Santa Maria della Neve and became the headquarters of the Company of Santa Maria della Neve. The building, made of local stone masonry and pebbles, has a simple aisle with square scarsella. Inside there are the remains of two frescoes: one of a 14th century depicting the Virgin and one of 1413 depicting the enthroned Madonna with Child and Saints Simon and Thaddeus. Nella localit\u00e0 denominata Pietracupa esisteva un tabernacolo dedicato alla Madonna, con un affresco quattrocentesco raffigurante la Vergine col Bambino. Si tratta del dipinto conservato nell’attuale Santuario di Santa Maria delle Grazie di Pietracupa, ritenuto per lungo tempo un\u2019opera di Paolo Schiavo, recentemente attribuito a Masaccio. Nel 1596, a seguito delle numerose guarigioni di devoti che si erano raccomandati all\u2019immagine del tabernacolo, due fratelli della nobile famiglia Naldi di San Donato in Poggio, Donato e Santi del fu Nicola, donarono un terreno pianeggiante per la costruzione di una chiesa in onore di Santa Maria delle Grazie. \u00a0La chiesa \u00e8 un edificio ad aula unica al termine della quale nel presbiterio si aprono due cappelle laterali ed il coro, posto oltre la parete terminale dietro l’altare maggiore. Sul lato sinistro \u00e8 collocato il campanile a vela, dal profilo slanciato e aperto da tre fornici su due livelli. In the locality called Pietracupa there was a tabernacle dedicated to the Madonna, with a 15th-century fresco depicting the Virgin with the Child. In 1596, following the numerous healings of devotees who had recommended themselves to the image of the tabernacle, two brothers of the noble Naldi family of San Donato in Poggio, Donato and Saints of the late Nicola, donated a flat plot of land for the construction of a church in honor of Santa Maria delle Grazie. The church is a single-aisle building at the end of which in the presbytery there are two side chapels and the choir, located beyond the end wall behind the main altar. On the left side is the bell gable, with a slender profile and open by three arches on two levels.
