The Romanesque parish church of San Pietro in Bossolo stands on an early Christian cemetery site dating back to the 5th century, found during some excavations carried out in 1967. It derives its name from “in buxula”, a term that indicated the place where the Roman military camps guarded the military strongbox. The current structure dates back to the second half of the eleventh century and inside has retained its original appearance with three apses aisles, with arches supported by twelve stone pillars. The façade is preceded by a portico added in 1510, when the parsonage was also restored, where the community of priests resided, who moved to the churches of the surrounding countryside to celebrate mass. On the south side of the building there is a cloister with octagonal pillars. Inside there is a monolithic immersion baptismal font with an octagonal shape, four-lobed inside, and a marble Eucharistic tabernacle from 1522.

[11.1846851097,43.5680922518]}}]}
