Abitata sin dal Paleolitico, in cui era collegata con la terraferma, l&#8217;isola fu greca e poi romana. Augusto, visitandola nel 29 a.C., fu il primo ad edificarvi una villa.Tiberio, suo successore, vi dimor\u00f2 dal 27 al 37 d. Cristo. Dopo Tiberio, altri imperatori soggiornarono a Capri e fino al IV secolo d.C. essa fu visitata ed abitata da nobili romani. Crollato l&#8217;impero romano d&#8217;occidente, l&#8217;isola fece per qualche tempo parte del Ducato di Napoli.<\/p>\n<p>Nel VI secolo sub\u00ec le incursioni saracene ed in quelli successivi il dominio dei Longobardi, dei Normanni, degli Angioini, degli Aragonesi e infine degli Spagnoli. Nei secoli XVII e XVIII, l&#8217;isola attravers\u00f2 un nuovo periodo di fortuna, all&#8217;unisono con il grande rigoglio politico ed artistico di Napoli, grazie ad un&#8217;attiva diocesi e ai privilegi che le erano stati rinnovati dagli Spagnoli e dai Borboni. Ci\u00f2 \u00e8 testimoniato dalle stupende architetture di chiese e conventi che si possono ammirare nei due centri urbani. A partire dalla seconda met\u00e0 del &#8216;700, molti tra i viaggiatori che scendevano sempre pi\u00f9 frequentemente dall&#8217;Europa settentrionale, attratti dalla solarit\u00e0 e alla ricerca di un mitico mondo primitivo, inclusero Capri nei loro itinerari.<\/p>\n<p>Dalla prima met\u00e0 dell&#8217;800, in seguito alla &#8220;riscoperta&#8221; della Grotta Azzurra, visitatori italiani e stranieri, attirati dal clima, dall&#8217;ospitalit\u00e0 degli abitanti, dai colori e dalla magnetica atmosfera dei luoghi, iniziarono ad affluire sull&#8217;isola. Artisti, intellettuali, scrittori, esuli, ricchi ed eccentrici visitatori la prescelsero come residenza abituale o stagionale, contribuendo a creare quella variegata e cosmopolita colonia internazionale che ha reso famoso il nome di Capri in tutto il mondo. From the mid-19th century onwards, following the \u201crediscovery\u201d of the Blue Grotto, Italian and foreign visitors flocked to the island, attracted by the climate, the inhabitants\u2019 hospitality and the colours and magnetic atmosphere of the places.<br \/>\nArtists, intellectuals, writers, exiles, eccentrics and wealthy visitors chose it as their permanent or seasonal residence, contributing to form the highly varied cosmopolitan international colony that has made the name of Capri famous throughout the world. Octave Auguste ordonna alors de les exposer dans les jardins de sa r\u00e9sidence principale. Cela est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 par certains comme la premi\u00e8re exposition de fossiles. Tib\u00e8re, le successeur d&#8217; Auguste, construisit aussi une s\u00e9rie de villas \u00e0 Capri, la plus connue \u00e9tant la \u00ab Villa Jovis \u00bb. L&#8217;\u00eele a accueilli de nombreux h\u00f4tes illustres comme Jean Cocteau, Andr\u00e9 Gide, Oscar Wilde, Pablo Picasso et elle est devenue une destination tr\u00e8s pris\u00e9e des touristes.
