La costruzione del Palazzo venne ultimata agli inizi del 1300 ed \u00e8 un esempio dell’architettura gotica classica in Toscana. Il Duomo o la cattedrale \u00e8 una costruzione meravigliosa, in un misto di stili che vanno dal gotico al Rinascimentale con la facciata ricoperta di marmi verdi e bianchi. All\u2019interno si trovano molte opere di artisti famosi, tra i quali Donatello, Pisano ed Arnolfo di Cambio.<\/p>\n

Una delle attrazioni principali \u00e8 il notevole pavimento intarsiato nel quale sono rappresentate scene sacre realizzate da numerosi artisti dell’epoca tra i quali il Pinturicchio.<\/p>\n

The Dome or cathedral is a wonderful building, in mixed style, from gothic to Romanesque, with green and white marbles on the facade.<\/p>\n

In the inside there are works by many famous artists, among them Donatello, Pisano and Arnolfo di Cambio. One of the main attractions is the marble pavement, realized by many artists. T<\/p>\n

he museum of the Dome, situated in the same square, accommodates some original statues by Pisano, moved there for numerous reasons of conservation, and many other works of art, as the famous “Maesta\u0300” by Duccio di Buoninsegna.<\/p>\n

On the same square also rises the hospital of Santa Maria della Scala, which accommodates different museums, in which there are exposed frescoes, works of art and valuables objects collected through the long years of its millenarian history.<\/p>\n

Passeggiando verso il centro, Siena vi accoglier\u00e0 con il suo motto: \u201cCor magis tibi Sena Pandit\u201d (Siena tiapre un cuore pi\u00f9 grande) inciso su Porta Camollia, una delle vie d\u2019accesso alla citt\u00e0. Di pianta labirintica \u00e8 stata costruita su un altopiano composto da tre colline di argilla rossa e le grandi mura abbracciano numerosi edifici sui quali spuntano la torre del palazzo pubblico e le strisce bianche e nere dell\u2019imponentecattedrale.<\/p>\n

La caratteristica che attrae la maggior parte dei visitatori che camminano per il centro urbano \u00e8 la variet\u00e0 di bandierine che fluttuano dalle finestre delle case. Sono le bandiere delle 17 contrade ancora esistenti. Nell’et\u00e0 medioevale Siena fu suddivisa in 59 contrade, ciascuna con un proprio capitano con poteri giudiziari, amministrativi e territoriali. Oggi, le contrade, vivono in attesa del famoso \u201cPalio\u201d , una festa che avviene due volte all\u2019anno a date prestabilite: il 2 luglio ed il 16 agosto.<\/p>\n

Al Palio, una corsa dicavalli, partecipano 10 contrade. Ciascuna ha un suo centro dove sono custoditi i trofei, un museo, una chiesa, una fontana pubblica con il relativo simbolo, una banda musicale e un emblema riportante una virt\u00f9. La giraffa simbolizza l’eleganza, il gufo la finezza, l\u2019aquila la combattivit\u00e0 ecc. I giorni precedenti al Palio sono febbrili; in ogni contrada il partecipante prova a organizzarsi al meglio: dalle cure al cavallo, alla preparazione della festa dopo gara e tutto \u00e8 controllato 24\/24 per evitare il tentativo di corruzione da parte degli avversari.<\/p>\n

La mattina del giorno del Palio, ogni contrada partecipa alla Santa Messa per la benedizione del cavallo e del cavaliere. La gara dura soltanto alcuni minuti, il tempo di percorrere 3 giri di Piazza del Campo durante i quali il pubblico sembra trattenere il fiato. Taking a walk towards the centre, Siena will receive you with its maxim “Cor magis tibi Sena Pandit” (Siena opens you its heart still larger) engraved on Camollia Door.<\/p>\n

The city, with its labyrinthic plant, is built on a plateau composed by three red clay hills and its large encircled walls embrace many buildings on which spuntano the tower of the Public Palace and the and the black and white stripes of its immense Cathedral.<\/p>\n

The characteristic which most attracts visitors walking in the city centre is the variety of flags waving fromthe windows of the houses. They are the flags of the 17 \u2018contrade\u2019 which still exist. In Medieval age Siena was subdivided in 59 \u2018contrade\u2019, every one of them had a captain with administrative, judicial and territorial powers.<\/p>\n

Today, the \u2018contrades\u2019 live waiting for the famous \u2018Palio\u2019, a festivity which takes placeevery year on the 02 of July and on the 16 of August. In those days there is a horse race in which 10 drawn\u2018contrades\u2019 participate. Each of them has a centre in which the trophies are guarded, a museum, a church,a public fountain with its own standard, a racing-stable, a musical band and an emblem bounded to a virtue.<\/p>\n

The Giraffe symbolizes the elegance, the Owl a fineness, the Eagle the will of fighting and so on. Thedays previous to the Racing Palio are febrile in every participant \u2018contrada\u2019 which tries to organize itself at better: from the cares to the horse, to the festivity of the after contest and the horse-rider; everything is controlled 24\/24h in order to avoid any corrupting attempt made by adversaries.<\/p>\n

The morning of the Palioeach \u2018contrada\u2019 celebrates a mess during which the and the horse-rider are blessed. The hard race lasts only a few minutes: the horse-riders must do it 3 times, during which the public seems to withhold the breath. Sienne, a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301poque me\u0301die\u0301vale, a e\u0301te\u0301 divise\u0301e en 59 contrade, chacune avec son propre capitaine aux pouvoirs judiciaires, administratifs et territoriaux.<\/p>\n

Aujourd’hui, les contrade vivent dans l’attente du ce\u0301le\u0300bre “Palio”, un festival qui a lieu deux fois par an a\u0300 dates fixes: 2 Juillet et 16 Aou\u0302t. Au Palio, une course de chevaux, 10 contrades participent chaque fois. Chacun a son centre qui abrite les trophe\u0301es, un muse\u0301e, une e\u0301glise, une fontaine publique avec son symbole, une fanfare et un emble\u0300merepre\u0301sentant une vertu.<\/p>\n

La girafe symbolise l’e\u0301le\u0301gance, le hibou la finesse, l\u2019aigle la combativite\u0301 etc. Lesjours avant le Palio sont fe\u0301briles, dans toutes les contrade tous tentent de s’organiser au mieux: le soin du cheval, la pre\u0301paration de la fe\u0302te apre\u0300s la course et tout est contro\u0302le\u0301 24\/24 pour e\u0301viter quelque tentative de corruption par les opposants.<\/p>\n

Le matin du jour du Palio, chaque contrada participe a\u0300 la messe pour la be\u0301ne\u0301diction du cheval et du chevalier. La course ne dure que quelques minutes, le temps de faire 3 tours de la Piazza del Campo au cours de laquelle le public semble retenir son souffle. Il Palio \u00e8 effettuato nel cuore di Siena, nella famosa Piazza del Campo, conosciuta per la sua forma a conchiglia ed ancora oggi cuore pulsante della citt\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Si tratta di una delle piazze pi\u00f9 caratteristiche d’Italia e si trova nel luogo dove un tempo sorgeva l’antico foro romano, di fronte al Palazzo Pubblico e alla Torre del Mangia.<\/p>\n

Dal 1327 al 1349 fu pavimentata utilizzando speciali mattoni rossi. The Palio is carried out in the heart of Siena, in the famous Piazza del Campo, known for its shell shape and still today centre of the city life.<\/p>\n

In the middle of the square there is the Gaia Source, a unique quadrangular fountain whit beautiful images along its walls.<\/p>\n
