Edificio simbolo del trapasso dal tardo romanico al gotico,\u00a0rivestito di marmo rosa di Verona, il Battistero, iniziato nel 1196, fu portato a compimento nel 1307.<\/p>\n

Posto accanto al Duomo,\u00a0il Battistero di Parma\u00a0rappresenta una tra le pi\u00f9 alte espressioni dell’arte in Italia.\u00a0Di forma ottagonale, il monumento reca sull’architrave del portale nord, quello verso la piazza detto della Vergine, la data di inizio dei lavori di costruzione e il nome di Benedetto Antelami<\/a> che diresse l’opera e realizz\u00f2 quasi per intero la mirabile decorazione plastica dell’edificio.\u00a0Il portale occidentale \u00e8 detto del Giudizio Finale e quello\u00a0meridionale \u00e8 detto della Vita.<\/p>\n

Il solenne interno, a gusto gotico, \u00e8 reso slanciato da sedici costoloni che si irradiano verso la volta ogivale convergendo nella chiave di volta ad anello. Al centro, la doppia vasca battesimale ad immersione, anch’essa a struttura ottagonale, \u00e8\u00a0risalente alla fine del XIII secolo. Sempre all’interno il ciclo dei mesi e delle stagioni e i rispettivi segni zodiacali scolpiti dall’Antelami.<\/p>\n

L’edificio, coperto a cupola, presenta nella parte inferiore nicchie semicircolari e nella parte superiore due ordini di logge. Nella volta interna\u00a0pitture a tempera della seconda met\u00e0 del XIII secolo.<\/p>\n

Built between 1196 ad 1307, the pink marble Baptistery is a clear example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic art in Italy.<\/p>\n

This octagonal baptistery built of Verona marble with four tiers of open loggias topped by a row of blind arches and crowning pinnacles, is certainly the most outstanding example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic art in Italy.<\/p>\n

Begun in 1196 by the same Lombard builders working on the cathedral, it was completed between 1302 and 1307. Benedetto Antelami <\/a>supervised its construction and executed almost all the decorative sculptures, typical of the medieval iconography. The lowest part of the baptistery is encircled by a zoophorus with bas-relief sculptures of animals, fabulous beasts, creatures from Hell, sea monsters, centaurs, mermaids, unicorns and Zodiac signs.<\/p>\n

The north door or Portale della Vergine is decorated with scenes of the Adoration of the Magi and the Annunciation, the twelve prophets, the Tree of Jacob on the right, the Tree of Jesse on the left and the Tree of life on the inside. The west door or Portale del Giudizio has a figure of the Redeemer in the lunette. The south door is known as the Portale della Vita or Door of Life and the scene in its lunette shows a man eating honey in a tree with two rodents and a dragon at the base while on the sides are the chariots of Sun and Moon.
\nIn the interior, a sixteen-sided polygon, are the notable sculptures by Benedetto Antelami depicting the Months, the Seasons and the Signs of Zodiac. Above the altar, in the semi-dome, is a Christ in Glory surrounded by the symbols of the four evangelists and two angels.<\/p>\n

Dedicata all’Assunta, la Cattedrale di Parma \u00e8 tra gli edifici romanico-padani pi\u00f9 rappresentativi del periodo. Iniziata verso il 1059, venne consacrata nel 1106.<\/p>\n

Oggi la facciata\u00a0presenta\u00a0tetto a capanna,\u00a0tre ordini di logge e tre portali. La facciata, tra due torri,\u00a0originariamente pensata come quella coeva del Duomo di Fidenza<\/a>, ne vede oggi realizzata\u00a0soltanto una, costruita fra il 1284 e il 1294 e recante sulla cuspide l’angelo in rame\u00a0dorato ora all’interno del Museo Diocesano<\/a>. La seconda torre fu iniziata nel 1602 e subito dopo interrotta.<\/p>\n

All’interno il Duomo presenta una struttura a tre navate e un transetto con cappelle laterali terminate da absidi. La decorazione interna presenta pezzi scultorei di notevole interesse, mentre\u00a0nel transetto, \u00e8 murata la Deposizione<\/a> dell’Antelami<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tra il 1525 e il 1530 il Correggio<\/a> dipinse la Cupola<\/span> uno dei capolavori dell’arte italiana del ‘500, rappresentando l’Assunzione della Vergine circondata da Apostoli, efebi e angeli recanti strumenti musicali e nei pennacchi i santi patroni della citt\u00e0. Preceduta in ordine cronologico dalla realizzazione della cupola della Chiesa di San Giovanni<\/a>, tra il 1520 e il 1523, rappresenta il punto pi\u00f9 alto della capacit\u00e0 espressiva e della ricerca illusionistica del maestro emiliano, nato a Correggio, appunto, tra il 1489 e il 1494. Il vorticoso moto ascendente dei santi, in uno squarcio di cielo, annulla completamente lo spazio reale e rappresenta il modello fondamentale cui si rifaranno le grandi decorazioni barocche del secolo successivo.
\nLa capacit\u00e0 innovativa di Correggio, che giunge qui al culmine, non piacque tuttavia ai committenti, tanto che il maestro che avrebbe dovuto in seguito occuparsi della decorazione della parte absidale della chiesa, non appena terminato il grande affresco, lasci\u00f2 il cantiere.<\/p>\n

Sempre di Correggio all’interno della cattedrale sono gli apostoli raffigurati sul tamburo della cupola, i santi dei pennacchi e le sei eleganti figure monocrome all’estremit\u00e0 dei sottarchi.<\/p>\n

The cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, can be considered one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Italy. It was erected by the heretic bishop Cadalus, who later became antipope Honorius II. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1117, it was rebuilt and completed in the 12th century. The tall bell tower, topped by a gilt copper angel, was added in the following century and the side chapels during the 14th and 15th century.<\/p>\n

The facade is made from blocks of sandstone and decorated with a row of loggias and two tiers of galleries. The porch on the main door is supported by lions, built in 1281 by master stone-cutter Giambono da Bissone. The octagonal dome, mounted on a crossing tower is quite unusual for a medieval church.<\/p>\n

The interior of the Cathedral is shaped on a Latin cross. The ceiling and walls are frescoed in the Mannerist style. A 16th century red Verona marble staircase leads up to the transepts where, on the right, is the famous relief of the Deposition<\/a> by
\n<\/a>Benedetto Antelami<\/a>, one of the finest examples of Romanesque sculpture, showing clear Provencal influences. The great void of the dome<\/span> was frescoed by Correggio<\/a> in 1526 with the Assumption of the Virgin. Concentric circles of clouds and heavenly hosts that inspired much of the Baroque work of the following century thanks to its illusionistic style so ahead of its time. Correggio’s audacious use for the time of foreshortening make the figures in the clouds protrude in a realistic way into the spectators’ space.
\nThe vaults above the choir were painted by Girolamo Mazzola Bedoli (1538) who also frescoed the Last Judgment in the apse semidome.<\/p>\n

Il teatro Farnese, opera lignea di Giovanni Battista Aleotti, venne collocato nel Palazzo della Pilotta<\/a> trasformando l’originaria Sala d’Armi e fu voluto da Ranuccio I Farnese <\/a>nel 1618 per festeggiare la sosta a Parma di Cosimo II de’ Medici. L’inaugurazione avvenne nel 1628 in occasione del matrimonio tra Margherita de’ Medici e il Duca Odoardo Farnese.<\/p>\n

Il teatro divenne un esempio per l’unicit\u00e0 di alcune delle sue soluzioni: dalla struttura ad impianto scenico mobile alle macchine per lo spostamento dall’alto di personaggi, ed ancora per l’ingegnoso sistema per l’allagamento della cavea in modo da poter inscenare naumach\u00ece. Nel 1732, dopo l’ultima rappresentazione, il teatro si avvi\u00f2 verso un lento declino, fino ad arrivare alla quasi totale distruzione durante la seconda guerra mondiale. La ricostruzione operata negli anni ’50 avvenne secondo disegni originali: le parti lignee, un tempo completamente decorate, vennero lasciate al naturale per evidenziare le poche, originarie, recuperate.<\/p>\n

The imposing wooden doorway of the theatre Farnese is nowadays the entrance to the National Gallery.
\nThe theatre Farnese, one of the most beautiful historical theatres in Italy, was built between 1618 and 1619 at the order of Ranuccio I with the aim to pay homage to Cosimo II de Medici, who had planned to stop in Parma during a journey towards Milan.<\/p>\n

The journey never took place and the theatre, built in the former arms room of Pilotta palace<\/a>, was only opened in 1628 for the wedding of Margherita de Medici and Duke Odoardo Farnese, with mythological and allegorical performances and a spectacular naumachia.G.B. Aleotti, the architect, based his design on Palladio’s theatre Olimpico in Vicenza: horseshoe shaped stalls are surrounded by two tiers of loggias with Palladian windows, the lower row Doric and the upper one Ionic, topped by a balconied gallery. The stage was equipped with an innovative system of movable scenery and gallerie, the first example of such stage machinery in the history of italian theatres. Special effects were used to recreate land and sea not only on the stage but also in the huge auditorium. A Corinthian proscenium is decorated by the Duke’s coat of arms and an inscription dedicated to Bellona and the Muses.The theatre, built out of wood, plaster, straw and scraps of fabric, fell into a state of disrepair after the last performance in 1732 and was almost completely destroyed by Allied bombing in 1944. It was rebuilt in 1950 using the same materials.<\/p>\n

L’antica pieve di Gaione, una piccola frazione di Parma, \u00e8 dedicata ai Santi Ippolito e Cassiano ed ha attraversato un lungo e complesso percorso storico. Vanta delle origini molte antiche in quanto la sua fondazione risale addirittura al periodo che va dal VII all’VIII secolo. Infatti sui resti di una struttura romana \u00e8 sorto, nell\u2019alto medioevo, proprio questo primitivo luogo di culto di cui \u00e8 stato rinvenuto il piccolo altare, in mattoni romani riutilizzati. La pieve viene successivamente ricostruita in forme romaniche intorno al XII secolo e precisamente al 1111 risale la prima attestazione della sua esistenza. Ma questo monumento, a partire dal Seicento, \u00e8 stato sottoposto ad una serie di rifacimenti che hanno in parte alterato quell’aspetto originariamente romanico. Infatti il campanile, il presbiterio e il fianco meridionale risalgono proprio a quest’ultima fase di restauri.<\/p>\n

The small parish of Gaione in the province of Parma, dedicated to Saints Ippolito and Cassiano, has survived a long and complex history. Its ancient origins are as early as the 7-8th<\/sup> century, built in the early Middle Ages on the remains of a Roman structure. A small altar made of reused Roman bricks from this early building has been found. A Romanesque church replaced this early one around the 12th<\/sup> century; the first attestation of its existence in 1111. Tale attivit\u00e0 ha origine antica. La lavorazione delle carni suine, fin dagli anni ’30-’40, veniva svolta in cantina e i prodotti sapientemente stagionati. Dal 1955 i prosciutti freschi vengono mandati\u00a0 a Langhirano sotto la tutela dei salatori affiliati al Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma, dove la famiglia Pancaldi svolge attivit\u00e0 di produzione e vendita all’ingrosso. Dal 1985 i figli del sig. Giorgio hanno fondato la F.lli Pancaldi di Fausto e Alberto s.n.c., che opera nel medesimo settore strettamente collegato con l’Antica Salumeria del pap\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Da sempre la scelta dei prodotti freschi viene minuziosamente fatta presso i macelli pi\u00f9 qualificati del Nord Italia, che trattano solo suini nazionali allevati come una volta \u201call’antica\u201d. Il risultato \u00e8 di straordinari prodotti:\u00a0 prosciutto di Parma, culatelli con e senza cotenna, fiocchi con e senza cotenna, coppe, pancette, salami, cotechini, tutti a prezzi estremamente competitivi o meglio appetibili… Un altro fiore all’occhiello \u00e8 il favoloso Parmigiano Reggiano, certificato \u201cBollino Oro\u201d oltre i 30 mesi, della zona collinare reggiana del quale la famiglia Pancaldi \u00e8 produttrice e grossista.
\nIl trionfo dei nostri ottimi prodotti viene impreziosito da specialit\u00e0 gastronomiche di altissima qualit\u00e0 come, per esempio,\u00a0 l’Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Reggio Emilia.<\/p>\n

Su “Piazza Grande” si affacciano la Cattedrale <\/a>col Battistero romanico <\/a>e il Municipio con la grande Sala settecentesca del Tricolore<\/a>.Sul lato nord della piazza, la statua raffigurante il Fiume Crostolo\u00a0<\/a>che era collocata nel parco di Villa D’Este a Rivalta. Sulla colonna di sinistra del Battistero,sono scolpite le misure lineari del ” braccio” e della “pertica” a testimoniare come questa piazza sia stata sempre un centro di incontri e scambi commerciali.<\/p>\n

The main square of the town, also traditionally called “Big Square” (piazza Grande)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Cathedral <\/a>with its Romanesque Baptistery<\/a>, and the Town Hall with its great eighteenth century Tricolore Chamber,<\/a> both face the square (the so-called \u201cPiazza Grande\u201d). On the north side of the square there is the statue depicting the River Crostolo<\/a>, which at one time was situated in the Villa d’Este park in Rivalta. The ancient linear units of measurements , the “arm” and the “pole” are engraved on the column to the left of the Baptistery, testifying as to how the square has always been a meeting place and trading centre.<\/p>\n
