Si tratta un luogo unico al mondo, con la pi\u00f9 alta concentrazione di mulini; 19 in tutto, costruiti fra il 1521 ed il 1760 allo scopo di pompare via l\u2019acqua dal polder nel quale questo \u201cwaard\u201d (terra bassa circondata da fiumi) era stato trasformato. <\/i><\/p>\n

Il nome (\u201cdiga dei bambini\u201d) \u00e8 legato ad una leggenda popolare secondo la quale durante l\u2019alluvione del 1420, la peggiore nella storia dell\u2019Olanda, qualcuno accorso sul luogo per vedere cosa fosse rimasto da salvare, avvist\u00f2 in lontananza una culla in legno che galleggiava sull\u2019acqua. Mano a mano che l\u2019oggetto si avvicinava, si defin\u00ec la sagoma di un gatto, intento a saltare su e gi\u00f9 lungo il bordo della culla, per tenerla in equilibrio. <\/i><\/p>\n

Quando l\u2019insolita imbarcazione raggiunse finalmente la terra ferma, si scopr\u00ec con non poco stupore che all\u2019interno dormiva, asciutto e tranquillo, un bambino. Kinderdijk \u00e8 sito UNESCO dal 1997.<\/i><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a unique place in the world this network of 19 mills (the largest concentration in the Netherlands) designed and constructed between 1521 and 1760 to pump water from the surrounding pastures and back into the nearby river Lek. <\/i><\/p>\n

The name is Dutch for \u201cchildren dike\u201d and it originated from a folk tale dating back to Saint Elizabeth flood of 1421, one of the worst floods in history. It is said that when the terrible storm had subsided, someone went to the dike to see what could be saved; in the distance a wooden cradle was seen floating on the waters. <\/i><\/p>\n

As it came nearer, some movement was detected and a cat was seen in the cradle trying to keep it in balance by jumping back and forth so that no water could get into it. As the cradle eventually reached the mainland, the bystander saw that a baby was quietly sleeping inside it, nice and dry. <\/i><\/p>\n

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997<\/i><\/p>\n

Importante centro fluviale e grande porto turistico, con numerosi yacht ancorati dentro e fuori la citt\u00e0, Dordrecht ha ispirato numerosi artisti tra i quali <\/i>Jan Van Goyen<\/i><\/b>, pittore dell\u2019epoca barocca vissuto tra il 1596 e il 1656,\u00a0 <\/span>pioniere del Realismo Pittorico olandese. <\/i><\/p>\n

The city was formed around the Thure river, in the midst of peat swamps and developed into an important market during 12<\/i>th<\/sup><\/i> and 13<\/i>th<\/sup><\/i> century. <\/i><\/p>\n
