Di origini dubbie, forse venne eretto nel XII secolo e grazie alla sua posizione, vicina al confine tra i territori delle Repubbliche di Firenze e Siena, divenne prima il baluardo fiorentino della zona e in seguito una delle principali fortificazioni della Lega del Chianti. L\u2019impostazione militare, d\u2019altronde, \u00e8 ben visibile nella forma a quadrilatero irregolare con al centro la torre del cassero. Le torri cilindriche, poste ai margini meridionali, che risultavano essere i pi\u00f9 esposti in caso d\u2019assedio, risalgono invece al XV secolo.<\/p>\n
L\u2019interno presenta molte sale arredate ed affrescate secondo il gusto settecentesco, oltre ad un teatrino sempre del \u2018700. La visita guidata al castello dura 30\u2019 ed \u00e8 possibile nei seguenti orari: il luned\u00ec 15.00\/16.30; dal marted\u00ec al sabato 11.30\/15.00\/ 16.30; la domenica 11.30\/16.00\/17.00.
