In questa aerea, il terreno consiste in massi di pietra, con la vegetazione che sorge tra le crepe delle rocce.<\/p>\n
I\u00a0resti delle rocce formano uno spesso strato di sabbia. Il castello di Montecuccolo \u00e8 il fulcro dell\u2019antica aera di difesa del Frignano. Il primo documento che ne attesta la veridicit\u00e0 risale al 1207, quando il castello era occupato da una famiglia feudataria tedesca conosciuta come \u201cda Montecuccolo\u201d, nome che deriva dal sito dove era locata la torre. La famiglia ricevette l\u2019investitura imperiale da Otto IV nel 1212, e con essa, il dominio di gran parte delle montagne nei dintorni di Modena. Il figlio pi\u00f9 famoso della famiglia \u00e8 Raimondo Montecuccolo, nato nel 1609.
