The Chenaillet ophiliolite is the best-known (and the best-preserved) example of ophiolites in the french Alps. On the slopes of Chenaillet mountain, a complete ophiolite sequence from serpentinites to gabbros to pillow-lavas (this photo) and pelagic sediments is preserved. <\/p>\n
Altitude is 2400 m, so access is only possible in summer months (may-october); early summer is normally packed with french students groups.
